Elm Bowl Day Two

Second day full immersion on elm bowl job..
finish inside bowl, waxed piece have show a couple of annoying line,
due too not so good turning...
and sanding as well...
to do a good job i believe i need a S Line ToolRest,
that allowed me to get very close to the wood while working the inside of the bowl...
Guide much better the 16 bowl gouge...

IT's pity becouse those line inside the bowl are really an eyesore...

however i'll wait some days before finish cutting the hold chuck...

The bowl is 16" diameter - 7 1/2 high

produced at least 4 hour of good domestic fire chippings...

                                                                      Thick 1 cm

Elm Bowl Day One

First day for this work, a bowl made by chinese elm, a beautiful tree gow up close to Appennino Mountain, around 40 years ago, been cut for some reason unknow to me.
His destination was domestic fire, i could take just one cuttedTree, the other 4 has gone.

Has fantastic colors, showing typical fiber elm....
Couldn't have really good finish close rings protruding,
but line came out i like a lot,
have a lot of sanding, in both direction
but no way to clean the surface very fine, Wood are Not so dry..
I reised his hair,
and difficolt clean after this deep tears...even few, they show like gold in a swamp..
i really like this line!

Table Evolution

Here i am,  listening "la mia banda suona il rock" by  Ivano Fossati....

Today i've found a beautiful Oak crutch, loaded on car with some help....still back problem..

started to take off all the bark, it was quite easy, seemed cut down that first summer...

touchin' the cut i felt a lot of humidity on surface....

then i worked on spalted walnut coffe table....

the horizontal plane will keep a bit the "square"

Here the idea to use some copper tubes to joint two top table
I'm not really that much enthusiastic about it...

i think i'll turn a walnut spindle used instead of copper pipe...

Cheers
